Penthouse renovation in Hartley’s jam factory

Hartleys Jam Factory Penthouse renovation - living room tv corner

This Bermondsey located property was a modern style apartment in the previously converted, famous Hartley’s jam factory. A great place that would become an outstanding home.

Hartley’s, a British jam and jelly brand now operating for more than 140 years, opened its second jam factory in 1890 in Bermondsey, London, allowing them to become the leading preserves manufacturer in the UK. The amazing history of this place was an inspiration for the refurbishment of its two rooftop penthouses.

The clients loved the location and its stunning London views, but needed more space for their growing family. Panoramic views of the Shard, St Paul’s Cathedral and many other landmark buildings, with roof gardens accessed through hydraulic glass doors, were a deal breaker in the purchase of this property.

We were recommended to this client by a high-end interior design studio with whom we had worked successfully on a different project in the Hampstead area.

The client needed someone trusted and proven to carry out this project on the top floor, with difficult access and site restrictions, whilst managing the entire renovation.

The challenges of this project were connected to site delivery limitations and planning the shipment of bulk items and furniture.

Additional manpower was needed to assist with moving, due to narrow staircases up to the 7th floor of this former factory building.

The original 200 square metres of hardwood floor was sanded down and re-oiled with a matt finish.

The entire apartment was decorated using little green paints with a splash of extra colour here and there, to create a feeling of freshness and consistency.

An audio-visual home cinema system and 9-speaker setup was wired for the clients’ dedicated home cinema room.

An unique installation of a Sonos music system throughout the apartment was the cherry on top of our other smart home technology solutions for this penthouse.

Three bathrooms were refurbished from the ground up, delivering the highest quality results to the client. Various other joinery units to bathrooms and storage areas were created to help maximise the use of existing space.

Two full height bespoke wardrobes in both bedrooms were manufactured to the clients’ exacting needs, with contrasting EGGER interiors and spray matt lacquered doors, internal LED lighting and multiple drawer units.

This project included the amalgamation and renovation of a 200 square metre penthouse apartment in Bermondsey, creating much needed space for a growing family. The flat consisted of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a media room, a home office, a kitchen and dining space.

Renovating a building that was converted from the Hartley’s Jam factory was both a challenge and an incredible adventure at the same time. Efficient cooperation between the interior designer, the amazing clients themselves and our experienced team was once again one of the key factors in the success of this complex refurbishment.

The clients were very pleased with the final results and shared some kind words about this renovation project.
