Renovation in Wandsworth SW11

Townhouse in Wandsworth- reception room with blue sofa

An amazing family in Wandsworth wanted to redesign and completely redecorate the ground floor of their house. We had a lot of fun and laughter working with them and their interior designer to create a new space.

Wandsworth is a popular family-focused neighbourhood in London. It is safe and still relatively affordable, especially given the location and transport options. Quite simply, it is a great area to live in.

This refurbishment was unusual for us because we did something here that we rarely do.

A designer approached us just two weeks before their planned start date, and luckily we had a small gap in our schedule between projects. It was a challenge, but one we could handle.

We rarely work in a home where the entire family is still living. Our work was restricted to certain areas of the house, and we had to keep dust under control and make safety our top priority because young children were still living there.

It was a redecoration project with a complete ground-floor redesign, introducing frameless glass balustrading and multiple bespoke joinery elements to create a stylish space, and reintroducing original features such as cornicing.

We had to plan every trade, along with multiple workshops and deliveries, precisely to ensure everything was ready in 6 weeks.

The designers arranged delivery of antique furniture to an upholstery workshop and ordered decorative lighting and soft furnishings. We focused on preparing the main living room area layout for frameless glass balustrading to bring the garden inside the house. In addition to bespoke telescopic sliding doors as a sound barrier to divide the basement lightwell, we were also finalising joinery drawings for the furniture to start production ASAP.

While the electricians located new lines to improve lighting throughout the ground-floor living room, gallery room, and corridors, the plumbers moved radiators around to make space for new joinery units.

Installing parquet flooring and carpets, as well as redecorating the house, was a last-minute decision while we finished this fast-paced project.

We take pride in meeting budgets and deadlines, even on challenging projects like this.

Thoughtful design, planning, daily site project management, and fruitful collaboration with the knowledgeable interior designer made a highly successful outcome possible.

The family was incredibly fun to be around, and they were open and understanding as we worked.

A word from our Clients:

From the initial meeting GBG provided a detailed review of the design from a structural perspective and together we were able to assess any constraints prior to the build, allowing the program to run smoothly.

GBG Building Services Ltd were our preferred contractor following a careful selection process for a residential refurbishment in SW London. Although not a large project there were a few complex areas of focus to the design and we required a skilled workforce to evaluate and execute the project to a high standard.

Mariusz Gawecki is a sincere, polite and extremely professional Project Manager. His background in Civil Engineering is another distinct string to his bow and is a huge asset to the design process. With this experience at the helm we were able to create a uniquely adept forum with our clients as the build evolved. In the end, Mariusz and Eric’s team were so incredibly efficient we completed the program ahead of schedule with a highly successful outcome.
